Imran Khan Appeals to Chief Justice Over Human Rights Violations

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed concerns to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the head of the constitutional bench, questioning why the Supreme Court has not heard any of PTI’s petitions regarding human rights violations and electoral misconduct over the past 18 months.

According to reports, Imran Khan addressed a letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Aminuddin, criticizing the government for enacting laws aimed at targeting PTI.

The letter reportedly includes "evidence" of state repression, listing PTI workers who have allegedly gone missing, been injured, or lost their lives due to government actions. The document, spanning hundreds of pages, is supplemented with photographs, medical reports, court orders, petitions, press clippings, and other materials that, according to Khan, substantiate his claims.

Imran Khan claimed that between November 24 and 27 last year, around 10,000 PTI supporters were arrested. He also attached a list of 42 PTI workers allegedly injured or killed during an operation in Islamabad’s Red Zone, along with details of 75 individuals who were allegedly missing for extended periods.

Furthermore, the PTI founder alleged that he was kept in solitary confinement from October 3 to October 25 last year, deprived of basic facilities, and subjected to "humiliating treatment." He also accused the authorities of restricting his meetings with his family and legal team under the pretext of security concerns.

In his letter, Imran Khan named several PTI leaders who have faced prolonged detention, including Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, and Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

He also criticized the alleged censorship of pro-PTI content on social and mainstream media, terming it a violation of fundamental rights under Article 19 of the Constitution.

Moreover, Khan pointed to alleged rigging in last year’s general elections and argued that the 26th Constitutional Amendment was introduced to weaken the judiciary.

He condemned the military trials of over 100 civilians, stating that the Supreme Court had already declared such proceedings illegal.

In his appeal, Imran Khan urged the Chief Justice to exercise all available powers of the Supreme Court to put an end to what he called "state suppression of democracy."
